We are just entering week 7 and lots has been happening in the past few weeks in Room 14.

The children thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Ferrymead Heritage Park to find out what life was like 100 years ago. We have been doing lots of comparisons with then and now and finding out what school  life was like for our parents and grandparents. Some of our parents went to Mairehau Primary.  We have been learning how to record information on venn diagrams.

On Friday we do a problem solving exercise. This one was called The Odd One Out. The children all got a 2 or 3D shape and had to explain why their one was the odd one out. Lots of rich discussion was had.

Swimming is over and softball coaching has started. The children enjoyed their first lesson in throwing and catching. They even got to put on a softball glove. That was a challenge in itself.

During Discovery Time with  a link to our Inquiry topic some of the children wanted to design a method of transport that you would see in the future. Diagrams were drawn, added to and altered.

Zach follows his diagram to start making a model of his futuristic car.

One of our Can Do activities during Reading time is to model something or someone from a book. Loving this ice cave Zach and Rossi. Great teamwork.

RBAA wristband recipients at our last assembly.
Well Done to Chelsea Radcliffe, Blake Benington and Yishaty Bootsma.

Ollie's kittens come to visit.

Clayton and Blake dismantle Mrs Layton's laminator which stopped working. The challenge was to dismantle not smash open. The conversation these boys were having was a joy to listen to. They are very apt with a screwdriver. I was told in great detail why it had stopped working as they extracted strange looking things caught in the roller.

Levi then started to shred the cord to see what was inside.
Helping Mr Langley. These two worked hard on a very hot day.

This week we welcomed Miss King to Room 14. She is a third year student from the University of Canterbury and will be with us until the end of the term. We are all enjoying her presence. Hopefully your child brought home their Essential Spelling List booklet so when time allows they can practise. spelling or click here for a link.

Until the next blog and may we get sun.
