Welcome to Room 14's Blog

Dear Parents, family and friends
Welcome to our first blog entry for 2017.

I hope to get some of our I.T. savvy children to take over the job of posting on our class blog. Children have no fear of information technology unlike some of us adults who fear pushing the wrong button will result in some catastrophic outcome.

Following just a few photos of life in Room 14 to date. Enjoy!

New friendships

The Crafty Girls

Levi sharing one his games from home and explaining the rules.

I wondered where my blue tack went. That is it down the leg of the table with many dominos attached. I loved this. Instigated by Mr Blake Benington.
Boys never tire of making robots. Zach had to explain the function of this one.

Silent Reading after play time. Chelsea and Mei know that silent                                                           reading means silent reading.
Writing holiday recounts. The challenge was for the children to give their  recount a title and to use at least three of the How, Where, What, Why, When, Who, Which questions. Of course they had to have a beginning, middle and end too.

Off on a spending spree Tasha?

Look at these keen readers. Into routines already.
We are looking at how toys have changed over time as part of our Inquiry. The children are loving the spirograph that was mine at age 4yrs. A scary thought.

I captured this when out on duty. I loved this photo. I know Tasha you will look at this and think, Oh no! another broken arm for Levi. I did tell the boys at the top to come down a few branches.

Making words. Upskilling!!

Clayton and Blake working on their essential spelling lists. Way to go you two!!

Fun in the pool with Room 4 and 5

Mei helping Chelsea with dictionary skills. One quick lesson on how to use a dictionary and these two are now looking up lots of words. Impressive!!

Pictures and letters to our brave Christchurch fire fighters.

More thank yous to our fire fighters.

And more!

I was impressed with the children's appreciation of what our fire fighters do and that they wanted to thank them. We had some great discussions around the Port Hills fires. New words and their meaning were learnt and they now all know what a monsoon bucket is.

Privilege time Friday afternoon and these three worked tirelessly on this Technic lego truck. The chassis is done and the axle works. I was suitably impressed at the stickability of these boys on this project.

Enjoy the weekend. I will be spending it with teenage boys as it is Josh's 14th Birthday.

The next post will be all about Camp. Woo hoo!!

Until then,
Jenny Layton

Kia Ora Kotou Katoa Spring has sprung and isn't daylight saving a wonderful thing?? There were a lot of droopy bodies by 2 o'clock...
